Experienced in cross-cultural communication and storytelling, Halea Kerr-Layton creates strong, compelling and creative narratives for her clients that build sustainable connections and transcend differences. At West End Strategy Team, Halea equips clients to navigate the rapidly changing media landscape, developing communications strategies that reach audiences through traditional and nontraditional media. Halea promotes the values of inclusion and justice through work with clients protecting and expanding the rights of voting, education, migration and reproductive healthcare.
Prior to joining WEST, Halea served as deputy press secretary at the Partnership for Public Service where she worked to support effective government and advocate on behalf of our nation’s public servants.
Earlier in her career, Halea cultivated community and socialized sustainability at Sustainable GW as a strategic outreach and engagement coordinator. Her graduate research focused on indigenous inclusion and public diplomacy in Guatemala. Halea also previously worked for FINN Partners, Global Ties U.S., and Mundo Verde Public Charter School.
Halea has a master’s degree in global communication with a specialization in public diplomacy from The George Washington University’s Elliott School of International Affairs and School of Media and Public Affairs. She also holds a bachelor’s degree in international affairs and Spanish and Latin American languages, literature and cultures from GW.
Halea is a graduate of American University’s WeLead program, GW’s Presidential Fellowship and GW’s Women’s Leadership Program.
